Immigration Place
Shortlisted competition, 2014
In collaboration with Jamie North, Emily Simpson, Bree Van Reyk, Event Engineering, The Field Institute and UNSW Historians
Immigration place is primarily a site of exchange; recalling histories, celebrating cultures and facilitating storytelling, allowing people of different generations and varied backgrounds to connect.
Sensory triggers “seed” the place with opportunities for exchange. A circular concrete structure rings the site. At its centre lies a beautiful lush garden incorporating both native and exotic, edible and ornamental plantings. Cultural associations are both specific and common, drawing from the immigration stories of many. A large bronze platform is at once a table, seat, stage and display surface and can be used for meals, presentations, events and performances.
