FRIENDLY BILLBOARDS
Temporary Art Installation, Hyde Park + Martin Place, Sydney

Friendly Billboards is about making the expected unexpected. Using commonly seen mobile traffic control electronic billboards, these ordinarily functional operational signs provided a humorous commentary on the quirks of the city, intercepting the banality of everyday life.

In Hyde Park, an avenue of animated faces lined the sides of a well trodden daily pedestrian route like a flock of spectators cheering you on your path. Elsewhere, humorous, helpful or observational message boards popped up to poke fun, accompanied at times by a crowd of complementary deck chairs or picnic tables to enjoy the spectacle or the mundane.
