In collaboration with Jean Rice Architect & Nelson Byrd Woltz

'The proposal demonstrated considerable research and a depth of thinking with regard to the interpretation potential and layered history and themes of the site. The passion and engagement of the team with the history and significance of the site, and commitment to translating this through to the design concept is commended.’

Competition Jury Report, 2017

The history of the place was traced and revealed through key architectural moves, intertwining the historical and the contemporary. A long floating pavilion stretches out to trace the original footprint of paired cell blocks in Yard 3. Native heath plantings cover the roof whilst scattered light scoops draw in natural light and reflect views of Mount Wellington beyond.
